Local move from Summit, NJ to Springfield, NJ

My 10 minute move from Summit NJ to Springfield NJ.

2 packers packed negligently on Tuesday June 5 2018. They dumped drawers into boxes. They mislabeled and mixed incompatible items in boxes and mislabeled the boxes' contents and room destinations.
6 movers moved me Wednesday June 6 2018 from a 4BR house to a 2 bedroom apartment within 10 minutes from my house. Liberty sent a bad crew, especially the head mover Richard Keenan. He was verbally abusive to me, talked over me, and refused to give me the bill of lading at origin because he did not want me to report in writing the antique dining room chair he broke while carrying it onto the truck. Many problems occurred throughout the move. The movers lost integral locking pins and discs for a heavy stacked circular bookcase they moved in parts. They moved my file cabinet upside down so that its metal parts and all of the files were jumbled at the bottom of the cabinet's bottom drawer. They marked up my expensive leather living room chairs with dirty hands. The abusive behavior of the head mover was the most terrible part of the move. The office denies ever getting complaints about him and does not honestly respond to my complaint which I substantiated with photos of damaged furniture. Worst moving experience ever.

Moving and storage.

Excellent service at each step of our move this summer, we would recommend this company to anyone!   Liberty moved us in July from our home of over 20 years.  As if that wasn't stressful enough, some of our personal belongings went into storage in  Liberty's warehouse and the rest came with us to an  interim location.  One month later, we were moved out of storage and into our new home.  The sales and scheduling personnel could not have been more helpful and accommodating, particularly when our closing date changed several times.  Since our move took place on 2 separate days, we had two different crews and both were terrific!  These guys were pleasant and courteous the entire day.  They are clearly experienced professionals.  As a result, our furniture was delivered on time with no damages at all.  Kudos to this company, for a difficult job with a great result.

Local move within New Jersey

Liberty Transportation & Storage - Berkeley Heights NJ.

We were promised boxes for certain furniture items including beds which we did not get.  Mover subcontracted us out after guaranteeing this would not happen.  Mover originally scheduled to start between 8 am and 10 am for a one day estimated 10 hour move.  Called afternoon before to say movers would arrive at 4 PM, which would have had us unpacking at around 2 am in the morning.  We complained to person who called and they did not control the times but refused to transfer us to the someone who did.  Called salesman to intervene.  Issue did ultimately resolve itself but this may be why we were subcontracted out.  Company appeared to be everything we wanted up until the day before the move when we went from satisfied to feeling we had made a very bad decision.  The subcontracted company did a good job and the movers were polite and worked hard but we feel we didn't get the services we had paid for.  In retrospect, another firm was comparable during the quote process but slightly more.  They warned us this company may subcontract out and that they, on the other hand, are family owned, nnever subcontract out and had long term employees.  If we could make the choice all over again, we would have selected the family owned and operated company.

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Massachusetts

Liberty Transportation.

Liberty has made our move a nightmare from start to finish.  After using Mayflower for a cross-country move last summer, I contacted them again for a move from NJ to Boston.  Mayflower referred me to Liberty.  I've had so many issues with Liberty that I could write a novel, but I'll try to keep this short.  To summarize: 1) Our assigned customer service person, Donna Moran, never called to schedule the pick up for our items.  Finally, at 4:55 p.m. the Friday before our Monday move, I called the guy that did our quote and he told Donna that she needed to call me.  Even though Liberty knew our items were in storage, Donna left a message with a 3 hour pick up window and expected that I would wait at the storage unit the whole time.  The driver actually came hours later than the pick up window, but did have the courtesy to call about the delay.2) Liberty agreed verbally and in writing to reassemble the furniture that was disassembled during our first move.  (It's been in storage since that time).  When it came time to perform, Liberty refused to do so.  They now claim that we will need to pay out of pocket for reassembly even though that cost was covered in our binding estimate.  3) Liberty originally told us it would take 2 to 3 days to move our things.  They then adjusted the delivery window and told us it was because of the weather in Boston.  When the driver picked up our things, he told us that there was never any chance that our items would be delivered in 2 or 3 days.  Liberty had always intended to deliver the items a full week after pick-up because that's when they had a load to pick up in the Boston area.  I understand the need to make a profit by lining up shipments moving North and South, but I don't understand why I was lied to about it.  4) Every time I speak to Liberty about any of these issues, their story changes.  If one person offers to do something to address our concerns, someone else at the company reverses the decision.  I've come to believe that they have been lying to me from day 1 and never had any intent to honor their promises.  We had a very good move using Mayflower in July, so I know that there are good movers out there.  Liberty is not one of them.  Steer clear!

Long-distance move from New Jersey to Washington

Extremely poor service.

My 82-year old mother moved from NJ to WA, and her items were picked up in early December with a promised delivery date of the 11th - 15th. We heard nothing, and called on the 11th for status. We were assured that the driver would call over the weekend and the truck would arrive on Monday the 15th. Having heard nothing, I called Liberty on the 15th and after some time I learned that the new arrival date would be the 20th - 22nd. I called again to confirm, and then learned the date was again pushed out. After several more promised delivery dates, and seemingly endless excuses from Liberty and Mayflower (they referred me to track down information on my own from Mayflower which led to numerous calls and requests for status) we were assured of a New Year's Eve delivery date. Of course that didn't happen. We heard excuses including: Driver was sick, driver went to Arizona, driver had a breakdown and had to stay in Las Vegas for a week, driver encountered construction, driver is stuck on black ice, driver didn't arrange for delivery labor to unload truck, load is being transferred to another driver, and more. After my mother slept on the floor of her new home for weeks on end in wait for the "arrival" of the truck, she finally received her items - after the holidays. This company lacks customer service, follow up, management empowerment, and reliability. If you use Liberty, be prepared to heavily project manage your own move, work directly with the moving van driver/dispatcher/vendor, and be out more money and time than you could ever imagine with nothing but a hollow apology from Liberty.
